Children

Is a tablet healthy for my child?

Tablets are part of family life. Screen use is not simply good or bad: content, duration, age and the balance with sleep, movement and real contact make the difference.

Keep the balance

Free play and moving outdoors are important for motor skills, health and social development. Sitting still for long periods and prolonged close-up viewing can increase fatigue and physical complaints.

Digital benefits

Age-appropriate, interactive applications can bring joy and train certain cognitive, language and eye-hand skills. They do not replace tangible, sensory and social experiences.

Practical agreements

  • Choose age-appropriate content together.
  • Agree in advance when and for how long a screen is used.
  • Alternate screen time with outdoor play, movement, sleep and contact.
  • Watch along regularly and talk about what your child sees and does.
  • For age-specific advice, follow the current guidelines of a trusted health organisation.
