Sensory processing
My child is smart, but easily distracted
Knowing what to do and actually doing it are two different things. Executive functions help children direct attention, get started, plan and adjust.

Look behind the behaviour
Distracted behaviour does not automatically mean a child is unwilling. A busy environment, an unclear task, fatigue or difficulty planning can demand a lot of capacity.
Make it achievable
- Give one short task at a time.
- Make time visible with a timer or step-by-step plan.
- Provide a quiet workplace with as little distraction as possible.
- Plan a movement break before attention fades completely.
- Praise effort and strategy, not only the result.
